Seagull Says: Still nosy. Still salty. Still here.
Running low on coffee but high on local gossip.
🌊 TODAY’S TIDE (Weather + Surf Report)
🌤️ Weather
Sunshine for days, high around 75°F, with a soft SSE breeze at 10 mph. Basically perfect for pretending you’re working while actually "checking the mail" outside. Nights are warming up too—63°F low—so you can leave the parka packed away for now.🏄♂️ Surf Report
The swell’s hanging around knee-to-thigh high. It's a little jumbled midday, but toss a big board in and you’ll find something to ride if you try hard enough. Not a day for your best barrel dreams, but not a total bust either.
🗣️ HEADLINES YOU’LL PRETEND YOU SAW COMING
🌊 Rip Current Awareness Week
Quick reminder: Mother Nature will body slam you if you don’t know what a rip current looks like. Swim sideways, stay calm, and maybe don’t act like you’re in a Shark Week audition this summer.🚗 New DMV License Plate Office Coming (Someday)
Good news: Dare County is finally getting a DMV License Plate Office again. Bad news: it’s in Kitty Hawk and probably won’t open until mid-August... because IT wiring takes longer than rebuilding a sand dune.🧳 Summer Tourism Forecast: “Meh, but Maybe?”
Summer tourism predictions? Basically, nobody knows anything. It might be flat. It might rain for three weeks straight. It might be fine if everyone cancels their European cruises. Stay tuned, stay salty.
🎟️ EVENTS: LEAVE YOUR NEST
Because a calendar full of island plans > a calendar full of Zoom calls.
🐟 Breakfast With the Rays
TODAY…THIS MORNING (actually, you probably already missed it.)
Start your day feeding stingrays at the NC Aquarium in Manteo. It’s like brunch, but way slimier. Closed-toe shoes required unless you want to make it a real adventure. Details here🏠 OBX Workforce Network Meetup
TONIGHT – 5PM–7PM
Work here? Live here? Just really love free snacks? Drop by Jennette’s Pier to talk housing, meet cool humans, and maybe solve a few problems (or at least gossip about them).🌿 Spring Nature Walk – Duck Town Park
TONIGHT – 6PM–7:30PM
Feeling outdoorsy? Or at least outdoorsy enough to stroll a boardwalk without spilling your iced coffee? Tag along with an NC Aquarium educator and learn which plants you’ve probably been trampling for years. Limited to 20 people—because nature walks, apparently, have VIP lists now. More info here🎥 The Brutalist – Pioneer Theater
TONIGHT – 6PM
Need an excuse to sit in the dark and judge fictional characters instead of real people? The Brutalist is playing at The Pioneer. Come for the visionary architect drama, stay for the snacks. Bonus points if you pretend to understand modernism by the credits.🏇 Derby Dazzle: Run for the Roses
Still Saturday, May 3, 5PM–8PM
Throw on your biggest hat and loudest outfit and come yell at horses you’ve never met. Mint juleps may or may not be required. $40 to get in on the fun. Details here
📍THE BEAK OF APPROVAL
Nags Head Pizza Company: Toppings for Days, Vibes for Life
Need to feed your whole crew without a civil war breaking out over toppings? Nags Head Pizza Company has you covered—with pies that even your vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free (weirdos who don’t eat cheese) ahem, we mean, friends, will happily demolish. Fresh ingredients and enough menu magic to make everyone shut up and eat.
🚨 TROUBLE IN THE SAND (But Not Much)
🦺Hey, safety matters!
Slow crime day yesterday (small miracle), but the Outer Banks was still lively—with three car accidents reported across the islands.
Naturally, the nosy birds (and the actual humans) are up in arms, waving flip-flops in the air and reminding everyone: "Get off your phones and drive like you live here."
Moral of the story: The beach looks better when you’re not seeing it through a cracked windshield.
⛱️ VACAY OR STAY
🏡Buy Now, Brag Later
Duck Dreams on a 3rd Floor Perch
Ocean views, a bunkbed in the hallway, and a front row seat to all your future questionable beach decisions. This 1-bed, 2-bath condo at Colony by the Sea has a pool, tennis courts, a private beach walkway, and a tall-chair deck situation begging for your sunset selfies. $359,500 for top-floor privacy and exactly zero neighbors stomping overhead, unless they are overweight seagulls. No shame, just facts.

🧳Sleep Somewhere Cool
🏖️ Stay at Mom’s
Two blocks from the ocean, next door to milkshakes, and absolutely no patience for your pets, toddlers, or bad attitudes. This 1970s beach cottage is all sun, snacks, and sandy feet—just how the Outer Banks intended. BYO good vibes (and maybe sunscreen).

🎤 HEARD ON THE BREEZE
☕Someone tried to parallel park a golf cart in Nags Head this morning. Witnesses say it took six attempts, two spectators, and one very patient iced coffee.
🤳🏻Apparently, someone dropped their phone off Avalon Pier yesterday while trying to film "the perfect wave." They got a great splash shot, though, and were heard saying “grateful for the cloud”. Priorities.
