Seagull Says: It’s Tuesday, Let’s Pretend We’re Productive

We checked the tide, the crime blotter, and the gossip groups—so you don’t have to.

🌊 TODAY’S TIDE (Weather + Surf Report)

  • 🌞Weather

It’s OBX windy with a side of sunshine—88° and gusts up to 25 mph, so don’t even think about wearing a flowy dress unless you want to flash the snack bar. The UV index is a solid 10, aka sunscreen or sizzling. Tonight? 78°, mostly clear, and breezy enough to rattle your window screens and your nerves.

  • 🏄‍♂️ Surf Report
If you were hoping for waves, we’ve got bad news: it’s giving pond. Flat, choppy, and basically just wet sand with commitment issues. Maybe take the board for a walk and call it a workout.

📰 HEADLINES + CHATTER

No one showed up to support wetland rollbacks, someone did bring fireworks to a no-fireworks beach, and another shrimp drama letter hit the fan.

  • 🪵 No Support at Wetland Redefinition Hearing
Not a single voice spoke in favor of changing NC’s wetland protections to match federal definitions. Turns out, no one wants dirtier water or floodier floods. Who knew?

  • 👟 “4 on the 4th” Race is Back
Lace up, hydrate, and pretend this sounds fun: a 4-mile run/walk kicking off your July 4th hangover. Hosted by the Barrier Island Group, this Frisco tradition returns Thursday morning.

  • 🌊 New York Man Dies Near Ramp 49
A tragic water-related incident near Frisco’s ORV Ramp 49 claimed the life of a 67-year-old swimmer. Bystanders and first responders attempted resuscitation, but it was unsuccessful. Our condolences to his loved ones.

  • 🎆 Fireworks = Still Illegal on Seashore Beaches
Cape Hatteras National Seashore has issued its annual reminder that fireworks are not allowed anywhere on Seashore beaches. Not in Rodanthe, not in Ocracoke, not even if you “just brought sparklers.” Don’t test the Rangers.

  • 🦐 Dare Chair Woodard Has Words for the Senate
In a sharply worded letter to Senate leader Phil Berger, Dare County’s Bob Woodard called the shrimp trawling ban push “unacceptable.” Translation: the local fishing industry isn’t done throwing punches—and neither is Dare County.

📍THE BEAK OF APPROVAL

The Kind Cup– Small Batch, Big Feels

Tucked into historic Corolla Village, The Kind Cup is more than a coffee stop—it’s a vibe. They roast their beans on-site, make their syrups in-house, and serve every drink with a side of Outer Banks charm (and sometimes a cat sighting). Whether you’re sipping a lavender cold brew or loitering on the shady porch pretending not to eavesdrop, this place hits just right.

📍1129 Corolla Village Rd, Corolla, NC 27927

Because the only thing better than strong coffee is sipping it somewhere that feels like a well-kept secret.

🚨 CRIME + SAFETY CORNER

OBX may be breezy, but the roads have been anything but chill.

  • 🛻 Vehicle vs. Tree on Caratoke Hwy
A single-vehicle crash with entrapment happened Monday in the 6064-block of Caratoke Highway. No official details on injuries yet, but it’s another reason to take it slow—especially with all this beach traffic.

  • ⚠️ Driver Charged in Fatal East Lake Crash
Tiffany Phillips, 35, of Lexington, SC, is facing charges after attempting to pass traffic on US 64 near East Lake and colliding head-on with Callie Ann Coltrain Coward, 31, of Ayden—who was pronounced dead at the scene. Phillips has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and reckless driving. Two passengers were airlifted to hospitals, while an 8-month-old in a car seat was thankfully unharmed.

⛱️ VACAY OR STAY

🏡 FOR SALE: Waterfront Sunset Central in Corolla

Five beds, 5.5 baths, and 3,280 square feet of sound-side stunner in Monteray Shores. This one’s got elevation, a private pool, epic sunsets, and the green light to add your own dock. Inside? Fully remodeled: quartz kitchen, tiled baths, new siding, new windows, new everything—including your lifestyle, because this is the kind of place where even the clouds look expensive.

📍920 Monteray Dr, Corolla | $1,449,000

$25K price drop, and a pool perched above the Currituck Sound like it's judging every other backyard in the zip code. You can’t make this view up—and you definitely won’t want to give it up.

🌊 VACAY: Beachin’ Fun – Buck Island Bliss with a Side of Dog Hair

This 4-bed, 3-bath Corolla cottage is 1,665 ft. from the beach and primed for your summer spiral. You’ve got hot tub bubbles, bunk beds, Smart TVs, and enough deck space to stage a small Shakespearean drama (or just grill out in your swimsuit). Bonus: it's dog-friendly, so Fido can join your escape from reality.

📍Beachin’ Fun North Unit | Buck Island, Corolla

Stay steps from TimBuck II, float in the Olympic-sized community pool, or hit the beach cabana like you’re somebody. Don’t forget your $250 beach gear credit—because dragging a cooler through sand should never be your core workout.

🕵️‍♀️ HEARD AROUND, IN, OVER, or UNDER THE DUNES

Because the beach isn't the only thing with drama.

  • A Corolla tourist swore she spotted a ghost crab “carrying a Pringle.” Locals say it was a Dorito, and this debate is now dividing the group chat.

  • Someone in Waves asked if sunscreen expires. Yes, Taylor. So does your SPF 4 tanning oil from 2017.

  • A Duck boardwalk regular insists the heron named Greg now has a girlfriend. She’s been dubbed “Gretta,” and apparently she’s not impressed.

  • ⛴️Ferry Schedule – You can’t teleport to the Outer Banks (yet), so here’s how to float your way here the old-fashioned way.

  • 🐾OBX SPCA Pet of the Week (more like every 10 days): This two-year-old tabby queen is all about the snuggles, the sass, and a solid chat. Esme’s favorite pastime? Telling you about her day—and then immediately curling up in your lap. She’s sweet, social, and very ready for her forever home.

  • 🌊Live Surf Cams – For “checking the surf,” but really just spying on beach traffic and seeing who already claimed your favorite spot.

  • 💬Submit a Tip or Event – Got a hot lead, weird sighting, or something the seagulls should be squawking about? Slide it our way.

🧂FINAL PEEP FROM THE PERCH

If you made it to the end without yelling at a tourist or digging your own “stay away” moat on the beach, you deserve a medal.

Forward this to someone who still thinks driving on sand is just like pavement—we’ll wait.

Sign up. Stay salty. Be nosy.
