Seagull Says: Sun’s up, sass engaged, feathers slightly ruffled.
Because it’s Tuesday and someone just asked if horses can use crosswalks.
🌊 TODAY’S TIDE (Weather + Surf Report)
🌞Weather
It’s giving: humid cloud blanket with a side of “meh.” High of 83° with a lazy little breeze out of the SSW at 4 mph—just enough to make the mosquitoes change lanes. Humidity’s holding steady at 85%, so go ahead and plan your outfit around sweat.
Tonight? Low of 76° with just a 9% chance of anything exciting. Winds shift SW at 8 mph, and the humidity cranks up to 89%. Basically, it’s a gentle swamp nap under a waning gibbous moon.
🏄♂️ Surf Report
It’s giving… “good enough if you’re desperate.” We’re mostly in knee-to-thigh-high territory today—down from yesterday, but not a total wash. A few waist-high sets are sneaking through on the inside during high tide if the surf gods feel like showing off. PM winds are light and onshore, so conditions aren’t bad… unless you’re into ignoring thunder, in which case: enjoy your electric bath, Poseidon.
📰 HEADLINES + CHATTER
We read the press releases so you don’t have to. You’re welcome.
🦈 Massive Great White Named Contender Cruises Off OBX
A 14-foot great white shark named Contender—the largest male ever tagged by OCEARCH—was just 22 miles off Cape Hatteras. He’s been cruising up the coast like it’s Shark Week and we’re all extras. So far he’s clocked 1,870 miles and seems to be vibing with our seafood scene.🌊 Flooding Threat Still Lurking Like a Passive-Aggressive Neighbor
Last night brought flash floods to the northeast corner of ENC, and now forecasters say we’re not in the clear yet. More rain could pop up today, so maybe don’t test your luck with that shortcut through the low-lying lot behind the Food Lion.🌀 Hurricane Forum Coming to Wanchese (and It’s Free)
The National Weather Service is hosting a Hurricane Community Forum on August 14 at the Coastal Studies Institute. Expect hurricane truths, prep tips, and probably one person asking if their screened porch counts as “safe shelter.” Spoiler: it doesn’t.🎣 Break the Rules, Lose Your Fishing License—Everywhere
Starting July 1, if you mess up fishing regulations in NC (or any state in the compact), your license could get suspended across the board. The Marine Fisheries folks are teaming up with other states to make sure wildlife violators don’t just hop state lines and play dumb.🦪 Wanna Lease Some Water for Shellfish? Now’s Your Chance
The state just opened 2025 applications for shellfish leases. If you’ve been dreaming of oyster farming or clam life, you’ve got ‘til August 1 to get in on it. Think of it like real estate, but slimier.

📍THE BEAK OF APPROVAL
☕Waveriders Coffee, Deli & Pub—One-Stop Caffeination and Carb Station
Whether you need espresso, a panini, a mimosa, or all three before noon, Waveriders in Nags Head has you covered. Cozy inside, full of locals, and just chaotic enough to feel like a real beach town café, this place fuels tourists and tired humans trying to exist.
📍3022 S Croatan Hwy, Nags Head, NC
Bonus: You can get wine and Wi-Fi here, which is basically Outer Banks coworking at its peak.
🚨 CRIME + SAFETY CORNER
Because it’s not truly summer until the turn lane becomes a trauma plot.
🚗 Northbound on 158: Summer Chaos Strikes Again
There was a car accident in Nags Head and… that’s it. No juicy details, no wild twists—just a reminder that beach traffic + vacation brain = fender benders and brake lights from here to eternity.
⛱️ VACAY OR STAY
🏡 FOR SALE: Dock It and Drop Anchor in Pirate’s Cove
This 3-bed, 2-bath soundfront condo in Manteo comes with over 1,200 sq ft of open-floor-plan peace and a 40-foot assigned boat slip—because what’s waterfront living without bragging rights? Granite countertops, gas fireplace, plantation shutters, and 180-degree views from the covered deck seal the deal. Plus, you’re steps from the pool, gym, and that sweet, sweet marina life.
📍1113 Pirates Way #1113, Manteo | $610,000
Bonus: Comes fully furnished, never rented, and includes an elevator—because hauling beach bags upstairs is for amateurs.
🌊 VACAY: Six Sisters Lodge — Boats, Views, and Zero Drama
This 3-bed, 2.5-bath waterfront hideout in Wanchese is part of the Magnolia Manor Estate, and yes—it’s giving reunion energy without the folding chairs. Just minutes from the beach but with enough space to pretend you’re on your own private island, Six Sisters has a big ol’ kitchen, an office (if you must), and kayaks/paddleboards waiting out back. Also? That sunset view is not playing around.
📍Six Sisters Lodge | Wanchese, NC
Bonus: Comes with a boat basin, outside shower, and enough porch space to host every cousin you like (and exactly none that you don’t).
🕵️♀️ HEARD AROUND, IN, OVER, or UNDER THE DUNES
We don’t make this stuff up. We just overhear it and write it down.
🪨 “Is Jockey’s Ridge natural or did someone build it?”
Yes, Karen. It’s an artisanal sand dune, locally sourced and hand-piled daily.🚫 “Do I have to pay the parking ticket if I’m not from here?”
We don’t have to tell you that Dare County does, in fact, know how to mail things.🦈 “If I’m in waist-deep water and there’s a shark, what do I do?”
Hope your friend is slower than you. Or just don’t swim next to the bait cooler.
🔗 QUICK LINKS
⛴️Ferry Schedule – You can’t teleport to the Outer Banks (yet), so here’s how to float your way here the old-fashioned way.
🐾OBX SPCA Pet of the Week (more like every 10 days): Zeus, the cat, though he appears to be eating well, could use a fur-ever home to have more play time and extra lovin’! Sidenote from Zeus, he prefers a home with a well-stocked pantry. 😽
🌊Live Surf Cams – For “checking the surf,” but really just spying on beach traffic and seeing who already claimed your favorite spot.
💬Submit a Tip or Event – Got a hot lead, weird sighting, or something the seagulls should be squawking about? Slide it our way.
