• 🦈 Massive Great White Named Contender Cruises Off OBX
  A 14-foot great white shark named Contender—the largest male ever tagged by OCEARCH—was just 22 miles off Cape Hatteras. He’s been cruising up the coast like it’s Shark Week and we’re all extras. So far he’s clocked 1,870 miles and seems to be vibing with our seafood scene.

• 🌊 Flooding Threat Still Lurking Like a Passive-Aggressive Neighbor
  Last night brought flash floods to the northeast corner of ENC, and now forecasters say we’re not in the clear yet. More rain could pop up today, so maybe don’t test your luck with that shortcut through the low-lying lot behind the Food Lion.

• 🌀 Hurricane Forum Coming to Wanchese (and It’s Free)
  The National Weather Service is hosting a Hurricane Community Forum on August 14 at the Coastal Studies Institute. Expect hurricane truths, prep tips, and probably one person asking if their screened porch counts as “safe shelter.” Spoiler: it doesn’t.

• 🎣 Break the Rules, Lose Your Fishing License—Everywhere
  Starting July 1, if you mess up fishing regulations in NC (or any state in the compact), your license could get suspended across the board. The Marine Fisheries folks are teaming up with other states to make sure wildlife violators don’t just hop state lines and play dumb.
