Seagull Says: Weekend Mode: Activated.
We sniffed out the good stuff so you don’t have to.
🌊 TODAY’S TIDE (Weather + Surf Report)
🌞 Friday Weather
Rain showers might RSVP early, but they’re not staying for dinner. High of 77° with SW winds at 9 mph—just enough breeze to make your beach hair look intentionally wild. Humidity’s flexing at 85%, and the UV index is an 8, so slather like you mean it. Tonight drops to 62° with skies clearing out just in time for your midnight snack run in socks.🕶️ Weekend Forecast Tease
Saturday’s bringing that “sunshine with a purpose” energy—75° and crisp with just enough cloud drama to keep things interesting. Sunday? Basically, the main character: 74°, mostly sunny, and smug about it.🏄♂️ Surf Report
The surf called… and then immediately hung up. Unless Mother Nature changes her mind (she’s been moody lately), it’s looking like a flat weekend out there. Great time to “check your gear” which is OBX-speak for standing around holding a surfboard and pretending to look pensive.
📰 HEADLINES + CHATTER
News you didn’t ask for, but now you’ll definitely bring up at dinner.
🖥️ Testing Our Patience
The state’s digital testing system flopped harder than a seagull in a windstorm. Dare County Schools hit pause on End-of-Grade tests this week thanks to a statewide outage. Kids will resume where they left off—eventually. Until then: no pencils, no problems.🎶 The Connells Return to Rock the Ridge
It’s been a minute, but North Carolina’s own, The Connells, are dusting off their amps for Jockey’s Ridge’s 50th anniversary bash on June 6. Expect nostalgic bangers, indie rock feels, and zero attempts to impress Gen Z. Bonus: the OBX’s first-ever drone show follows their set, but you’ll really only be there for The Connells. We just felt obligated to throw in the drone tea. Complimentary tickets (yep, free) and full fest scoop at jockeysridge50.com.🌍 Dirty Dick’s, Global Edition
Turns out, the secret sauce at Dirty Dick’s Crab House isn’t just butter—it’s an international student workforce keeping the lunch rush afloat. J-1 visa students from around the world are powering OBX restaurants this summer, but the real challenge? Finding them a place to sleep that doesn’t involve beach chairs or bunking with the lobsters.🎓 Dare to Be First
Meet the first-ever class of Dare Early College—57 trailblazers snagging diplomas and associate’s degrees before most kids finish Driver’s Ed. It’s the kind of educational glow-up we love to see. Plus, yes, there will still be prom.📈 Tourism Summit Incoming
The 11th Annual OBX Tourism Summit is coming on November 6 to the Hatteras Marlin Club. Topics? AI, economics, and marketing plans, of course. But let’s be honest—you’re mostly going for the networking and the free coffee.

📍THE BEAK OF APPROVAL
🍌Banana Dog Cafe – Coffee with a Side of Canine Charm
Tucked in the lot of the Wild Horse Inn, this cheerful little trailer is brewing up more than caffeine—it’s dishing out Corolla connection one cup at a time. Named after the owner’s beloved banana-curved pup, Dixie (RIP, queen), Banana Dog Cafe lives by the “it’s the little things” motto. Grab a coffee, stay for the convo, and maybe shed a tear for the cutest dog origin story ever.
📍Mobile Coffee Shop- Wild Horse Inn, Corolla
Come for the coffee, stay for the tail wags and human kindness.
🚨 CRIME + SAFETY CORNER
Where the only thing faster than the gossip is a guy on a motorcycle fleeing three counties.
🏍️ From Nags Head to Nowhere Fast
Shon E. Waterfield of Edenton decided the best way to spend his Wednesday night was outrunning cops on a motorcycle. Spoiler alert: it didn’t work. After a multi-town chase and a foot pursuit, authorities caught up with him—plus a laundry list of charges already waiting in Chowan County. He’s now enjoying an all-inclusive stay at the Dare County Detention Center. No bail, no bike.🚗 Beveridge Behind Bars
31-year-old Joshua Scott Beveridge turned himself in after a hit-and-run that injured a 14-year-old in Nags Head last weekend. No word yet on whether he’d had a beverage before striking the teen, but we’re guessing his next round will be served in a courtroom. Bond was set at $15K.🚓 A Coke Bust on the Bridge
Efren M. Jaquez of Concord probably didn’t plan to get caught with cocaine while cruising across the Virginia Dare Bridge, but here we are. Deputies pulled him over for a traffic violation and left with a felony arrest. He’s now out on a $2,500 bond, hopefully rethinking his road trip routes.⚖️ Courtroom Kids Doing the Most
Dare County Teen Court isn’t your average courtroom drama—it’s run by teens, for teens, and it’s changing lives. First-time youth offenders face a jury of their peers, not judges in robes. Think of it as the real-life version of “Judge Judy: The High School Edition”—only with more restorative justice and fewer eye-rolls.
⛱️ VACAY OR STAY
🏡 FOR SALE: Tranquil Pondfront Cottage — For when your vibe is less “oceanfront chaos” and more “hide from humanity (but make it cute).”
This 2-bed, 2-bath Manteo nest comes with cozy corners, a proper dining room (fancy!), a pond view, and a covered porch for sipping tea and silently judging the squirrels. It’s tucked away, hugged by trees, and has a fenced-in yard so your dog doesn’t make a break for it when the UPS guy rolls up.
📍111 Skyco Rd LOT 4, Manteo | $334,900 | MLS #128616
Price dropped $5K—so go ahead and pretend it was fate.
🌊 VACAY: Endless Summer Cottage — For when your personality is 75% saltwater and 25% Keurig.
This historic hideaway brings surfer shack vibes with a soundtrack of seagulls and surround sound. Two queen bedrooms, a sleeper sofa, and a brick patio built for evening sips = your own little Roanoke retreat. Ten minutes to the beach. Five to Big Al’s. One whirlpool tub upstairs if you need to reflect on your life choices.
📍Manteo, NC | Endless Summer Cottage
Booking is by phone only (# at the link ⬆️), so if you're a "we’ll just figure it out later" person… now’s the time to pretend you're not.
🕵️♀️ HEARD AROUND, OVER, or UNDER THE DUNES
🛟Someone definitely left their Crocs in the shower at Jennette’s Pier, and the lifeguard is now the proud new owner.
🐴A Corolla local was overheard loudly explaining to a tourist that the wild horses don’t need carrots—what they need is for people to back off.
🔗 QUICK LINKS
