Named after the owner’s beloved banana-curved pup, Dixie (RIP, queen), Banana Dog Cafe lives by the “it’s the little things” motto. Grab a coffee, stay for the convo, and maybe shed a tear for the cutest dog origin story ever.

Where the only thing faster than the gossip is a guy on a motorcycle fleeing three counties.

  • 🏍️ From Nags Head to Nowhere Fast
    Shon E. Waterfield of Edenton decided the best way to spend his Wednesday night was outrunning cops on a motorcycle. Spoiler alert: it didn’t work. After a multi-town chase and a foot pursuit, authorities caught up with him—plus a laundry list of charges already waiting in Chowan County. He’s now enjoying an all-inclusive stay at the Dare County Detention Center. No bail, no bike.

  • 🚗 Beveridge Behind Bars
    31-year-old Joshua Scott Beveridge turned himself in after a hit-and-run that injured a 14-year-old in Nags Head last weekend. No word yet on whether he’d had a beverage before striking the teen, but we’re guessing his next round will be served in a courtroom. Bond was set at $15K.

  • 🚓 A Coke Bust on the Bridge
    Efren M. Jaquez of Concord probably didn’t plan to get caught with cocaine while cruising across the Virginia Dare Bridge, but here we are. Deputies pulled him over for a traffic violation and left with a felony arrest. He’s now out on a $2,500 bond, hopefully rethinking his road trip routes.

  • ⚖️ Courtroom Kids Doing the Most
    Dare County Teen Court isn’t your average courtroom drama—it’s run by teens, for teens, and it’s changing lives. First-time youth offenders face a jury of their peers, not judges in robes. Think of it as the real-life version of “Judge Judy: The High School Edition”—only with more restorative justice and fewer eye-rolls.
