Seagull Says: Thursday is just Friday's shy cousin.

The sun’s up, your inbox is overflowing, and yes, someone did steal the last cheese danish again.

🌊 TODAY’S TIDE (Weather + Surf Report)

  • 🌤️ Weather
Clouds are rollin’ in and setting up shop. High of 76°F, low of 67°F, and humidity that’ll make your sunscreen feel like syrup. Light breeze out of the SSE, which means your hair might survive—but don’t bet on it. Feels like a good day to pretend gray skies are “cozy vibes.”

  • 🏄‍♂️ Surf Report
We’re talkin’ knee-to-thigh-high waves with a side of “meh.” Thanks to some low pressure out East, there’s a small swell mix, but it’s not exactly giving drama. That said, it’s slick out there and the weather’s nice, so if you’re craving a paddle, aim for early afternoon—before the tide shows up and ruins your mediocre fun.

📰HEADLINES + CHATTER

  • 🦐 The Seafood Festival Wants You (and Your Fine Motor Skills)
Outer Banks Seafood Festival is looking for volunteers to help split up beverage and merch ticket rolls. Yes, it’s exactly as glamorous as it sounds—but you’ll get free admission and a volunteer t-shirt. Split rolls, earn clout.
    📍Outer Banks Chamber Office, M–Th, 9–3
📩 Email [email protected] to help.

  • 🐴 Naming Names: The Wild Horse Dilemma
The Corolla Wild Horse Fund is changing its tune on naming new foals. Why? Because people have been treating them like collectibles instead of wild animals. The group will now keep names private to help protect the horses during critical early months. It’s not about secrecy—it’s about survival.
    TL;DR: Less posting, more respecting.

🚗 WHERE TO SHOW UP SO YOU CAN SAY YOU “DID SOMETHING”

Not a packed calendar, but there’s still plenty to clap for, sip on, and sing poorly in public.

It’s day 10 of local legends over 50 showing us all what active aging actually looks like. Expect medals, high fives, and at least one person doing laps around your excuses.

📍THE BEAK OF APPROVAL

Wee Winks Market + Deli: Duck’s OG beach stop since 1976
Before Duck was “cute,” Wee Winks was already holding it down. Opened in 1976—when Corolla had more wild horses than residents—Wee Winks was the last stop for snacks, gas, and probably a life-changing grape soda before you hit the sand.

Now? It’s got a full deli, fresh pastries, salads, wine, and that same small-town heart. Still family-owned, still the go-to for locals and vacationers alike, and still ready with everything from cold drinks to sunscreen to that one thing you forgot and didn’t know they’d have.📍1213 Duck Road, Duck

🚓 FROM THE “YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS UP” FILES

Just a few things that made the scanner crackle and your neighbor suspiciously quiet.

  • 🛻 Wreck at the high school entrance? Just a visual aid.
No need to panic—Manteo High students were greeted with a wrecked car this week as a prom-season safety reminder. Shocking, yes. Effective? Also yes. Buckle up, kids. That corsage won’t survive a fender bender.

  • 🎉 Congrats, Corporal Ardinger!
Duck PD’s Mitch Ardinger got promoted and earned an advanced law enforcement certificate in one fell swoop. That’s what we call a good day at the office. Just don’t let it go to your utility belt, Mitch.

  • 🚴 Helmet hair > hospital visit
Nags Head PD gave a shoutout to all the students (and their tired adult chaperones) who braved the road for Bike to School Day 2025. Energy? Questionable. But the enthusiasm? Certified fresh.

  • 🐾 K9 Apollo, suiting up.
Thanks to a donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Nags Head’s own four-legged officer Apollo now has a custom-fit bullet- and stab-proof vest. He deserves a raise and a tennis ball.

  • 🏍️ Update on the motorcycle accident near Masala Bay:
The couple is home and recovering, according to a neighbor. We’re relieved to hear it—and sending good vibes (and ice packs).

  • 🚧 NC 12 paint job = surprise gridlock.

NCDOT decided to stripe the road with that shiny reflective paint yesterday, from Duck to Pine Island and back. No notice, just cones and chaos. If you were sitting in traffic, wondering what you did to deserve this…same.

🗣️ HEARD AROUND THE OBX

  • 🌭A seagull stole a kid’s hot dog right off the bun at Jennette’s Pier. We’ve received no apology.

  • 🛋️Someone dumped a recliner next to the dunes in Nags Head. Again. Y’all. It’s not a drop-off zone.

  • 🔊A Corolla rental group blasted Pitbull until 3am and now at least two neighbors know all the words to ‘Fireball.’

🧂FINAL PEEP FROM THE PERCH

If your Thursday energy is held together by caffeine, vibes, and the promise of a weekend tan, you’re not alone. Just try not to quit your job before lunch.

Sign up. Stay salty. Be nosy.
